'Nihonto' - the Japanese Sword
Sword Fighting Styles
There are many styles in existence and I will simply mention the most common and link you to a couple of places for further research on your own.
When you talk about sword "fighting" styles literally you refer to "kenjutsu" or often more generally "battojutsu". But there are also different Iaido styles as well. I'll not discriminate here. One thing to consider if you are looking for a style to train in, you should first answer the question about is it a "real" style or don't you care. There's a couple of links included about this topic.

With Kendo/Kumdo it doesn't matter. Kendo is Kendo. It is a "do" or Way style and as such it is standardised style from many different sword fighting styles. It is only the "jutsu" or Iaido styles which may be different. This section is mostly provided for your general interest since in NZ there are not many Iaido or Kenjutsu training clubs.
