Ken-do Christchurch Aotearoa Kendo Club

Welcome to the website of Christchurch Aotearoa Kendo Club.

To score a point in a Kendo match, the judges look for a strike to have the full "mind, body and spirit as one" combination such that if the blow had been made with a real sword, it would indeed cut. Kendo is not just about "hitting people with sticks" - it involves preparing the mind, spirit and body for the discipline of the sword.

Additionally, Kendo is not about killing someone. In Kendo, as in Iaido, we use the sword to cut away at our own layers of imperfection to re-shape a better person.

Therefore Kendo is a journey of self-improvement using the sword. In fact this is the meaning of Kendo: "Ken" = "sword", "do" = "the way" (or "the spiritual path"). Or, as someone once said "Life is Kendo, Kendo is Life".

Therefore, we welcome you to our life!
