Events


NZ is a small country and the Kendo community is quite small, however we try to particpate in as many events as possible to broaden the experience base.
Shiai (competition) is part of Kendo - not the ultimate goal, just a part. Our senior members attend as many shiai events as they can. This usually means the South Island Kendo Chamionships, the Nationals and the Rembuden Taikai since it is relatively close.

2007 was the second year for the South Island Kendo Championships and was hosted by our Christchurch Aotearoa Kendo Club. Results are as follows:

Juniors Individual Competition:
Gold medal: MinSoo Cha CAKC.
Silver medal: Corey Sutton Invercargill.
Bronze medal: Conor Entwistle Dunedin, YuJung Lee CAKC.

Womens Individual Competition:
Gold medal: Manami Kitsu Canterbury STKYK.
Silver medal: Saki Yamashita Canterbury STKYK.
Bronze medal: Kaho Sakakura Dunedin, Shinrii Sato Canterbury STKYK.

Mens Individual Competition:
Gold medal: HeeJung Shin CAKC.
Silver medal: JiSan Jang CAKC.
Bronze medal: Ramon Palmer Canterbury STKYK, JiHoon Chung CAKC.

Teams Competition:
Gold medal: Canterbury STKYK B (Hiroshi Kasai, Manami Kitsu, Alicia Cavan).
Silver medal: Aotearoa B (MinSoo Cha, HyungSuk Nam,HeeJung Shin).
Bronze medal: Canterbury A (Kieran Roche, Ramon Palmer, Shaman), Aotearoa A (HyunJong Oh, Jihoon Chung, JiSan Jang).
